Question by Haily: Why is it illegal for a 16 year old and a 26 year old to have sex if they both want to?

My 16 year old friend`s 26 year old boyfriend is being charged with statutory rape. Why is it illegal if they both wanted to have sex? It doesn`t really seem fair to me. He didn`t rape her or try to talk her into it or anything. She wanted to.
